Sounds to me you are just looking for a quick buick and think because you see pros win money on tv, that you can win to.Be warned that NLHE is the form of poker that is the most swingy. So be prepared to lose hundreds of dollars. If you can’t handle that mentally, then no point in even trying to learn.

Programming Language for Online Game Creation?

I would like to make an in-browser game for my website. To explain it simply, it will be a card game similiar to Poker (although completely different). I built my own website in PHP, but I have no experience in creating games for the web.

My question would be does anyone have a good direction for me to dive into this?

I would like suggestions such as what language (e.g., Flash, Java, etc.) you think would be best to code the game, as well as resources (preferably cheap) that I may use to learn the necessary skills such as links and/or ebooks. I don’t mind learning a new language(s) and I plan to take time doing this.

If it helps at all: I’m already familiar with PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, and AJAX. Game details I would like to have include user interaction with mouseovers, simple animation (like cards flipping over), and multiplayer over the web (which I’m assuming I’ll have to integrate usuig AJAX).

I’m not looking for someone to do this for me; I would just like some professional advice and a good starting point from those who have experience. Thank you.

Player answers:

You say your are familiar with JavaScript, so a combination of Java and JavaScript is probably the best way for you to go with this. The bells and whistles (animations, mouseovers, etc) can all be added later. Your first step is to create a basic, multi player card game. Once that is mostly debugged then you can add in the fancy features.

The probability of being dealt three of a kind

Number of combination of 5 cards drawn from a deck of 52 cards

How do I check for poker hands in Java?

If i have 5 cards with rank and suit how do I check for different poker hands in java i.e. straights, flushes, etc? I’m not looking for code, just a way to do it. thanks!

Player answers:

There won’t be any trick to it. You will have a series of methods, each one taking an array of 5 cards and returning a boolean. One for each kind of hand you are trying to detect. Then the code within each method must just do the appropriate checks. It will be somewhat detail-oriented but I don’t see a way around it.

For example:

isPair – look at each card and see if there is another in the hand of the same rank

isThreeOfAKind – similar to isPair but must find two other cards with the same rank as each chosen card

isFlush – take the first card, note its suit, then check that the other four cards have that same suit.

IsStraight – find the lowest card, then check that among the other four cards there is a card with each of: one higher rank, two higher rank, three higher rank, and four higher rank. With Aces being either low or high there will be some additional work in this method to accommodate that.

IsStraightFlush – could be implemented by calling isStraight and isFlush and only returning true if those are both true

isRoyalFlush – first check for isStraightFlush then check that the lowest card has rank 10.

You get the idea.

One detail to consider is whether you want to consider three-of-a-kind as a pair, since technically there are two cards with the same rank. If not, then the code for IsPair will have to also call isThreeOfAKind (and isFourOfAKind) and not return true if any of those are true.

Wild cards will complicate these methods of course. Then they will need a way of knowing what is wild as they look at the cards to see if they meet the requirements of the kind of hand they are checking for.

The poker room staff doesn’t get money from the tournaments they run. The casino gets the money, then the casino pays their staff a salary, and perhaps bonuses if they want. The casino staff will treat this money as they would any other form of income. They will have to pay taxes on the income just like anyone else. As far as any tips they receive, they will treat that as income, too. If anyone receives money but does NOT report that money as income, they are taking that chance and they are making that choice.

The rounds are 1 hour long and they start you out with good chips, I like to play in this series, and you have a ton of room to play, you can go to there web site and see for yourself. Also the Bellagio has a 1k buy-in, first places pays out 28-30k and has some top players who come out for this one. The Bellagio and the mirage have very nice rooms and they draw a lot of the top players in the area.

Player answers:

Starting cold, just go to the poker room and let the tournament director know that you want to register for the tournament. At some casinos, a player card is not required. For example, if you have a players card at Planet Hollywood, you get 500 bonus chips vs the player who registered without a players card. At the Rio, Caesars, any of those properties that are owned by Harrahs, you need to show your players card when you register for a tournament. In all cases, they will tell you where to get the card at. Usually it’s in the customer service area. The Venetian asks that you use a players card to register for a tournament. Binions and the Golden Nugget does not require you to have a players card.

So now you have a players card, you go up to the designated cashier area in the poker room and register and pay for your buy in. The tournament cashiers in turn will give you a card with the table and seat assignment. Take your card to the table and seat noted. The dealer will verify that you are in the right place and take your card and push a stack of tournament chips to you.

Once all players are seated and the start time arrives, the dealer will either have you draw a card to determine where the dealer button goes or he will deal each person a card to determine where the button goes or they will do it on one designated table what I just wrote, and the tournament director will announce that the dealer button goes on seat # for all the tables. Then the play starts and dealers will shuffle up and deal. Good luck! Enjoy your time in Vegas!

Player answers:

The reason you are struggling to find a difference is they are restricted to the same percentage. Fulltilt doesnt let anyone pay more than 27% rakeback, if anyone is offering more, then they are breaking the rules, will eventually get caught, and then shut down.

The main difference between rakeback providers is the rakechases, the rake races, and the freerolls. Personally I’m part of the raketherake network, they’ve been around for years and have given out over 87 million in rakeback. I use them, promote them, and highly recommend them for fast payouts and good customer service.

As for the offers that we have, currently for fulltilt we have a 15k freeroll and a 55k rake race, thats on top of 27% rakeback paid weekly, and of course the initial deposit bonus.

The leader boards are being updated for the new year and should be running by the end of the week.

I’ve earned over $200 starting from 0 do i need to deposit to get rakeback?

Yes it is true.

Rakeback exists because Full Tilt Poker offers 30% of the rake generated by new players as an incentive for Websites to recruit new players for them. Rakeback Websites then pass on 27% of the rake back to the player and keep 3%. Make sense?

In order to receive it you have to sign up through a rakeback provider and use a special tracker code so that they can track your profits. Check out the FAQ in the resources box below for more details.

If you have already signed up with a website. You need to either find the website that you signed up through or email Full Tilt support and ask them. If the website you signed up through doesn’t allow rakeback, you may not be able to get it. If you are not linked to a website already, Full Tilt Poker has their own version of rakeback known as Rakebackpros.com, which you may be eligible for. Ask Full Tilt support.

You must deposit real money in order to be tracked for rakeback as well.

I am confused? If I spent full tilt points on satelites would this come out of my rakeback?

Player answers:

This is an incredibly common question.

First off, your bonus+RB is more than you’d ever get from RB alone.

To explain further, whenever you play a ring game hand, or enter into a tournament, you are paying rake. This number roughly translates into MGR, which is the number your RB site uses to determine your rakeback. This would normally be the 27% (Highest allowed by FT), so .27XMGR. However, there are things that deduct from your MGR, and your bonus is one of them.

For any dollar you receive as bonus (Which for the $600 sign up I believe is released in $20 chunks), that is deducted from your MGR. This means that while you gain $20 in bonus money you lose, .27 X 20$ in rakeback. Essentially, 73% of $20 is how much you are actually getting per release. This works out to .73 X 600 = $438. Still a pretty good value, and nice to build your roll!

To answer your other questions, yes you will still receive some RB while the bonus is clearing. And yes, if you spend FTP’s on *anything* you will take a hit to your rakeback. The hit to your MGR is .05c/FTP.

Edit: I wanted to correct something the other response got wrong. Happy Hour does double your FTP earning rate, but it does NOT release bonuses any quicker. If only it did.

TRUE STORY! What are the odds in a 5-card stud poker game with 10 players that 2 would have 4 of a kind?

This actually happened when I was in the service. After finishing a 2-day mission and waiting to be relieved, we did what we normally did..played poker! This time several officers wanted to join in–big mistake for us! So, ten sat down to play one game of 5-card stud (you keep the only 5 cards you get..no wild cards..no throw-aways..everyone bet after each card was dealt). We all felt that an ace-high-garbage-hand would have been worth hanging in with for a while and a high pair could have taken it all. The game lasted for a couple of hrs. At the end, all the money most of us had, watches, rings, personal backup weapons, future favors, you name it, … it was all in the pot. More than one player had 2 of-a-kind, 2 people had 3 of-a-kind, and the last two to show their cards (both officers) each had 4 of-a-kind. The first of them to lay-down had 4 -3′s. Of course, everyone thought he was the winner, but when the last one showed his hand of 4 -4′s…well, you may can imagine the reaction. (All the ones still in the game at the end laid their hands down in the order the cards were dealt, which made it pretty amazing that the last one to show his hand had the winning-hand anyway!) This was back in the Vietnam daz, so a long time has passed, but I had to ask this question ’cause I’ve never forgotton that game and never stopped wondering about how high the odds must have been for anyone to get 4 of-a-kind…especially 2 players! The deck was a new, normal 52-card deck which was shuffeled by all 10 players, and everyone agreed that the deck had been shuffeled plenty. Thanks guys!

1 in 337.7 million rounds of which two players are dealt, since you do not specify exactly the number of players in the game, all i can advise is that this is the probibility if only 2 peopel are playing the game, you would have to adjust the odds according to how many people were in the game proportionate to the two players the odds are for, it would become more likely by a signifigant degree as you add more players.

I beleive that it is far more likely that one of the officers was dealing and was very skilled at card mechanics, though you may beleive the cards were shuffled thoroughly, you likely wouldnt know if cards were added, or removed before or after it was shuffled by the skilled card mechanic. Also, the more time spent shuffling, the more oportunities, the card mechanic has to view cards and shuffle them to points he sees fit. Or even easier, who is to say that the skilled dealer didnt switch out the deck immediately after shuffling for one that appears identical.

Its my opinion that you were cheated.

how do i calculate the odds of being dealt a flush in poker?

Tired of playing that game you move onto the poker room. You sit
dealt from a standard pack of 52 cards consisting of four suits of
thirteen ranks). Using MATLAB and the function ‘nchoosek’ show how
many possible hands you can be dealt.
Being very lucky, the first hand you are dealt contains 5 cards of the

We consider all the card in the deck to be unique,

So the nCk function will give you the number k element of subsets of an n element set where order is not considered important.

In this case the total possible 5 card hands is given by 52 C 5.

Now you need to calculate the number of ways you could draw a hand of all the same suit.

The total number of ways to draw 5 cards from a particular suit is,

13 C 5

However, there are 4 such suits,

so the total number of flush hands is,

King of clubs
7 of hearts
Ace of spades.

Player eight has a 5 of diamonds

Player nine has a King of spades

Offhand, I’d toss the king, since you know that at least one of them is already held by someone else. This gives you 3 chances to score another ace instead of 2..trip aces would be a hand with a pretty fair chance to take the hand. It also would probably be a slightly better chance to wind up with two pair.

How does probability work over multiple instances?

Okay so I’m specifically referring to poker but I’m interested in probability in general. In texas hold’em there are two cards left to be revealed after the flop. If a player needs one specific card (for instance a 7) from these last two cards to be revealed, what are the chances of this happening? Assuming there are no sevens in the flop and the player has no sevens in his hand, the chance on the river (the 4th card) would be about 1 in 13, as would the chance on the 5th card. So what is the chance of this 1 in 13 event happening if there are two chances for it to happen? What about 3 chances or 4 chances, etc. Please provide mathematical support for your answers. Thanks.

Player answers:

In reality, it isn’t quite so simple because you don’t know if OTHER PLAYERS have a seven. So for a game, you have m players, and 2m+3 cards are dealt at the end of the flop. This leaves 49-2m cards to go. Since you know 5 of the 2m+3 cards are not sevens. The 4 sevens are in the other 47 cards (those held by the other players and the cards other than the 3 flop cards). So the odds that a seven is present is 13/47. Since the game goes to its end with 2 more cards to be revealed, there are 3 outcomes; no sevens, one seven or two sevens. The expected probabilities of these events is given by the binomial distribution (13/47 + 34/47)^2. The last term will be
(34/47)^2, and is the expected probability that NO seven will show up in the last two card turnovers. This is somewhat more than 1/2. The middle term (2 x 13 x 34/(47^2) ) is the probability of 1 seven, the first term (13/47)^2, the probability of 2 sevens. If you want to go beyond two turnovers, just set the exponent of the binomial distrution to the turnovers you are interested in.
